This is the expanded version of badge art I did for Saboten-Con. [link] It will also be available as prints at con.
Orcans breath air and have no gills, so they spend much time at the surface of the ocean, whereas other merfolk do not. After centuries of gazing into the heavens, the sky and all its celestial bodies now play an important role in their culture.
Air powers the sonic Breath Blast attack, which none of the gillfolk have, enabling the Orcans to build a great empire with little opposition. So, since the sun is at the apex of the sky from which they "draw power," it (and all its heavenly fellows) have become their symbol throughout the ocean. Sun and moon and star motifs are inscribed everywhere in the cities of Orca, especially in the capitol.
That and I just like drawing Azuri with sunflowers.
aw thats just so beautiful. All of a sudden all your art is colored in an amazing way I dont think I'd be able to do. I dont know why I didnt notice before but lately I've been "Wow!" by it all.

The underwater sunflowers are a lovely idea Maybe you can make the petals a little longer so they could reach for the sun's sunlight; making them more aquatic

I think only you could juxtapose orcas with sunflowers and actually pull it off. Amazing work!
